Keep in mind that if your answer is unfactual, we may have the right to ungentlemanly categorize you as "a liar".
:)
You can always tell a native Virginian from a come-here based on his use of manners.
(I'm pickin' on you, James)
Oooohkaaaay.
Then you (smilingly) scold James for being ungentlemanly by suggesting that Bush is a liar.
Yet you in your gentlemanly way quite confidently assert that Howard Dean is a liar because he misstated an element of the Democratic party platform.
To recap, Dean told Robertson that the Democratic party platform says that marriage is between a man and a woman and that Democrats believe in "inclusion, that everybody deserves to live with dignity and respect".
The actual party platform does NOT endorse gay marriage. It opposes a federal anti-gay-marriage amendment and asserts that marriage is an issue that should continue to be left up to the states. And since marriage is between a man and a woman in all but ONE state of the union, I can't see how he's all that far off, can you? Here's what it actually says:
"We support full inclusion of gay and lesbian families in the life of our nation and seek equal responsibilities, benefits, and protections for these families. In our country, marriage has been definited at the state level for 200 years, and we believe it should continue to be defined there. We repudiate President Bush's divisive effort to politicize the Constitution by pursuing a Federal Marriage Amendment." Our goal is to bring Americans together, not drive them apart."
Now, you're going to assert that Dean's misstatement about the party platform was more INTENTIONAL and PURPOSEFUL than Bush's innacurate statements about WMD's? Yellow cake uranium? "Mission accomplished?" Okay. That's your prerogative, I guess.
But I wonder...
Do you have a secret door into Howard Dean's mind to know that what he said was an intentional lie, and another door into George Bush's mind to know that all the things he has been wrong about have been completely unintentional? If so, who else's mind can you read?
Are you willing to step back for a minute and wonder whether it just might be your prejudices against Democrats that make you assume and then so confidently assert that Dean is a liar? If you can wonder that, I wonder whether you might consider that it is your assumption and assertion that is ungentlemanly, indeed.
:-)
