Governor Kaine has stated his preference for a new state song. Of course, everyone knows that the real state song should be Old Dominion by Eddie from Ohio.

  1. The Richmond Democrat says:

You’ve got to be kidding . . . it’s obviously “Sweet Virginia Breeze” by Robbin Thompson and Steve Bassett. See:

If this song was selected we’d instantly have one of the coolest state songs, if not the coolest.

How many other state songs do you actually hear on the radio?

    Let’s see:

Colorado: “Rocky Mountain High” by John Denver

Georgia: “Georgia on my mind” by Hoagy Carmichael and Stuart Gorrell

New Jersey (honorary): “Born to Run” by Bruce Springsteen

“Sweet Virginia Breeze” would be awesome for anything but the most solemn occasions, so maybe we get a state hymn too, something we can play at funerals.

I think you’re dead-on Shaun. Considering the number of Dominionists in VA, it’s a natural.
