MWC panel debates issues posed by U.S. war with Iraq

Or more accurately, whined and complained about how successful the war is actually going. Here’s the kicker:

MWC’s Faculty Senate almost considered a resolution yesterday asking President George Bush to bring U.S. troops home before more lives are lost.

The resolution was on the Senate’s agenda, but members voted not to discuss it. Roy Gratz, distinguished professor of chemistry, said taking such a stand would violate Senate rules.

Had it adopted the resolution, MWC would have been the first college in Virginia to formally oppose the war.

At some point, when the opposition is just so extreme they begin defeating themselves with their own rhetoric, you just have to step aside and let the train go rumbling down the track. Another favorite quote in this article:

The U.S. Constitution originally gave Congress the authority to declare war, but presidents have ignored that in recent years, said Jason Davidson, a specialist in international security and the European Union’s common foreign and security policy.

Just like Kosovo? Haiti? Serbia? Desert Fox in 1998? Yes, I’m sure that history will be much more supportive for Clinton than for Bush 43.
