Time for another round of EXPOSE THAT POLL!
This Washington Post/ABC News poll was nothing more than a complete dissection of the pro-war movement, a poll that puts support for the president at 59%, and of those supporters 58% had no reservations. That puts those who support the war without reservations on par with those who simply oppose the war – reservations or otherwise. The numbers show real support among the pro-war movement, and no real sign of wavering or weakness on our part.
Furthermore, the Washington Post slant poll is dramatically inconsistent with other national polls. Most polls reflect a support for war in the mid-60s, while anti-war sentiment remains at under 20%. For instance, take the Fox News/Opinion Dynamics Poll. In this poll, support for the president on Iraq is at a margin of three to one.
Between the two polls, the 37-question Opinion Dynamics poll of 900 registered voters was much more comprehensive than the 3 question Post poll of 1022 random individuals. As registered voters are more likely to (a) pay attention to current events and (b) more likely to vote in an election, the OpDyn poll is simply a better reflection of the national mood.
Give the folks at the Washington Compost credit for a nice try. But not good enough.
